Being a member of the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) was a huge part in my secondary school life. I would have never imagined myself to be in a uniformed group co-curricular activity (CCA), but being a timid 13 year old, I just followed whatever CCA my brother joined. Turns out, joining NPCC was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Don't get me wrong, the trainings and punishments were absolutely brutal, but the friendships that I have forged, memories I have made, and experiences I have had are things that I would not trade for anything else in the world.
NPCC has allowed me to broaden my view of the world, for instance, through the various learning journeys that I have been on. One of the most memorable ones being a volunteering experience at Cheshire Homes Far Eastern Regional Council. Me and my squad mates took part in befriending with activities such as playing cards, board games, and a host of social activities such as Bingo to keep our residents entertained. Spending time with the elderlies also brought a sense of purpose and fulfilment, knowing that I am able to make a positive impact on the lives of others through something so simple.
Being a member of the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) has provided me with a wealth of opportunities for personal and professional growth. Some of the key takeaways from this experience include leadership and teamwork skills - As a member of the NPCC, I have developed my leadership and teamwork skills through working with my peers and engaging in group activities and events such as weekly trainings and camps.
Secondly, physical fitness and discipline - NPCC places a strong emphasis on physical fitness and discipline, providing me with opportunities to improve their overall health and well-being.
Thirdly, problem-solving and critical thinking skills- Bring in the NPCC has developed my problem-solving and critical thinking skills through the various training exercises and simulations.
Next, understanding of the criminal justice system - I have gained a deeper understanding of the criminal justice system, including police procedures and the role of law enforcement in society.
Additionally, communication and public speaking skills - Starting out as a timing young girls, I have improved my communication and public speaking skills through participating in competitions and other events.
Moving on, knowledge of community safety - Through participating in community safety initiatives and events, I have gained a deeper understanding of the importance of community safety and the role of law enforcement in promoting it.
Furthermore, time management and organisational skills - I have developed my time management and organizational skills by participating in training exercises and events, which often requires us to balance multiple responsibilities.
Last but not least, resume-building - Being a member in the NPCC has enhanced my resume, demonstrating my commitment to service, leadership, and community safety.
Overall, being a member of the NPCC has provided me with a wealth of opportunities to develop my skills and knowledge, while also serving my community and contributing to the greater good.
